Passing of Mrs Radha Burnier

International President of The Theosophical Society

radha-burnier-1 The 7th International President of The Theosophical Society, Radha Burnier, passed away on 31 October 2013 at the age of almost 90.

She occupied the Presidency even longer than the Society’s Founding President, Colonel Olcott.

First elected in 1980, she was re-elected to this office five times.

Radha obtained a Master’s degree in Sanskrit from the Benares Hindu University and was at one time the Director of the Adyar Library and Research Centre. In her early life she was also a celebrated exponent of classical Indian dance.

She kept alive the spirit of serious reflection and open-minded enquiry in the TS. Radha’s writings and her talks around the world inspired many, with her insights into life. Several books by her were published, as well as numerous articles.

May she have a well-deserved rest.

The March 2014 issue of Theosophy in Australia will include more about Radha Burnier and her life.
